About:

The Lynbrook High School athletic field was ablaze with homegrown Halloween magic, as the National Art Honor Society presented Night of the Pumpkins on Oct. 29.

At this annual event, the NAHS members put their artistic talents to work for charity, filling the field with one-of-a-kind, hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns. Net proceeds from the event, totaling more than $6,500, will benefit the Ronald McDonald House and the NAHS scholarship fund. NAHS members gathered early that morning to carve 125 pumpkins into works of art – a feat that took hours to complete. That evening, they lit their masterpieces for all to enjoy. The pumpkins, which were available for sale, were quickly snatched up by buyers eager to own one of these artfully carved creations. Children were invited to come in costume to the festive event, which also featured face painting, games, movies, raffles and other fun fall activities.

NAHS members organized the entire event with the assistance of adviser Michael Kunz, high school art department chairperson Vincent Lentini and the high school art department. Halloween treats were artfully prepared by members of the Culinary Arts Club and high school food and nutrition classes, working under the direction of adviser Lauren Reganato.

“This has grown over the past eight years from a humble display in the cafeteria to a community event that raises more than $5,000 for charity each year” said Kunz. “Through the creativity and hard work of NAHS members, Night of the Pumpkins has become another proud Lynbrook tradition.”
